Save the date of October 22, 2018 for this years MCSS Annual Conference in Augusta, Maine.
These can be challenging times in Social Studies classrooms. This conference addresses the questions of how to effectively deal with controversial issues such as diversity, racism, culturally appropriateness, and demonstrate how to interweave contemporary issues into your standards-based curriculum and lessons.
We intend to model best practices that include examples of interdisciplinary lessons and strategies that work well at all levels, k-12. We want to help students understand and recognize implicit bias in state, national, and global communities, improve their media literacy and ability ferret out fake news. Sessions also address how to teach about polarizing moments in history and foster respectful dialogue about current and past events.
Thus year's theme is "How Do You Teach in Today’s Climate: Social Studies Education in a Polarized World."
